Matthias studied law at the Universities of Würzburg and Frankfurt am Main, specializing on business law. After successfully completing his legal studies he worked for several months in the USA.

In 1992, after he has passed the second state exam in law, Matthias gathered further practical experience in tax law while working for the fiscal authorities. In 1993 he started his own company and established a strategic partnership with a well-known tax advisor and auditing firm. 1997 Matthias has been officially granted the title tax lawyer ("Fachanwalt für Steuerrecht").

For many years Matthias has been advising medium-sized companies on strategic transactions. In particular, Matthias has prepared, and advised on the appropriate structure of M&A transactions for and within "family businesses". He was granted his Dr.iur (JD) based on a thesis about "foundations as a proper means of structuring succession in family businesses". At ORCA Corporate Finance he is the specialist on any issues relating to succession in family businesses, the set-up of foundations and the protection of the assets of family estates.
